In early 2009 I was asked by a fabulous lady at PwC, Catherine Rennolds, to design a three hour workshop as part of our global development programme for emerging talent across the PwC global network, Catherine was the creative genius behind the programme and wanted me to somehow capture the experience I’d had during the firms Responsible Leadership Programme, where I was on secondment to the Glasgow Drug Crisis Centre and in particular the ‘return to work’ element and help those on the 9 week global programme plan better for their return to normal life within the firm.
As with my experience in Glasgow my experience with the participants of the global development programme, the faculty of the program and especially of Catherine taught me considerably more that I contributed to them. What I actually developed as a three hour module for Catherine wasn’t entirely what she had asked for but she humoured me and it became one of the most powerful interventions of the programme and remains as a stand alone three hour workshop run in countries around the world for PwC clients, PwC people and friends and family of the firm, thousands of participants have now taken part in the workshop which is called Genius, Power, Dreams.
Genius Power Dreams explained
Imagine getting to do what you love every day. Imagine being surrounded by people who were genuinely passionate about what they do. Imagine having others recognise and nurture your unique talent. Imagine being encouraged to realise your potential and unleash your inner genius, power and dreams, every day. Now imagine that this was your place of work. How many of us live this dream?
Genius, Power, Dreams is an approach, created by Andy Woodfield, that leverages a wide range of deep research and thinking and makes it accessible to individuals, teams and organisations in a practical way that can have a profound impact on our ways or working, personal happiness and business performance. Three Hours. Three Topics. About one person. You! Start your journey of unleashing your true life potential at our three hour ‘Genius, Power, Dreams’ workshop, it aims to give you an opportunity to explore your natural and unique strength, explore the power and impact you can have, and take some time to consider your life’s dream.
The workshops are informal, honest, lively, and – unlike many development workshops – they are not instruction manuals, led by a trainer, on how to find your hidden talent. Instead, they gather momentum and energy from the delegates in the room, who each find their own way of tapping into long forgotten dreams and ambitions, skills and talents and decide their own way of applying these personal attributes to their own organisations. Through a series of very simple techniques over the course of three hours, where groups of individuals reflect, share ideas, appreciate different opinions and have time out of the workplace to remember who they actually are, we find that people start to understand that they don’t have to look too hard to find their inner genius – the things they keep well hidden either because of modesty, vulnerability or weariness. We’ve all been there. We all have a lot more to offer.
